Participants will set up their own blog during the first class, and create at least one post per class covering the content of the course. They will provide the class their blog URLs in order to set up an rss feed reader such as iGoogle or Google Reader in order to read each other's weekly blog posts. Students' final post will be an explanation of how a web 2.0 activity will be used in one of their courses.
Course Project:
The purpose of the project is to give you experience planning a lesson that incorporates technology to enhance student learning. The project also provides an opportunity for you to gain additional practice experimenting with new technologies. Finally, the project allows you to showcase your skills in the final class, sharing it with your classmates face-to-face and electronically as a final blog posting.
Your have a lot of freedom in choosing your own project. I encourage you to choose a project that complements your teaching style and supports the teaching and learning of content in one of your classes. I will be happy to meet with you to help you choose an appropriate project if you'd like.
Grading:
Grades will be based on a points for participation, homework assignments, and the final project. Points will be given thusly:
25 pts. Final project presentation
25 pts. Final blog entry about final project
10 points per homework assignment for weeks 1-4 for a total of 40 possible points
10 points for class participation for weeks 1-5 for a total of 50 possible points
5 points per comment on another student's blog for a total of 20 points possible points
In class: We will start by discussing expectations of this course. We will briefly discuss what the terms web 2.0 and social media refer to. Students will then learn to maneuver through our course wiki. They will set up their own blogs and learn how to create posts.
Homework:
1. Bring a digital photograph of yourself to class next week or post in on Course Participants page.
2. Write your first post about one of the following: (a) an article or two you've read from the above supplementary information; or (b) a slide or video presentation from the above supplementary information; or (c) your thoughts, hopes, expectations, concerns about this class; or (d) your thoughts or beliefs concerning social media.

In class: We will set up a homepage on iGoogle and integrate classmate's blogs via RSS feeds. We'll look at other Google applications and consider how they might be used in our teaching and learning.
Homework: 1. Watch Sixth Sense Technology, Prepare to comment on it in class next week. 2. In your blog, post about one of the following: (a) one or two of the Google applications and how they might be useful to you either in your teaching or learning; (b) your feelings about Google and its many applications. 3. Be sure to read and post a comment on one or two of your classmates' blogs.

In class: We'll look at various presentation sharing tools and discuss their possible use in our courses. All students will use VoiceThread in class to comment on Sixth Sense Technology.
Homework: 1) Write your third blog post about one of the following: (a) your impression of one or more of the video presentations from class today or from the above supplementary information; or (b) if and how you think one of the above tools could be helpful in incorporating or facilitating increased or better collaboration in one of your courses. 2) Start preparing for your final project by experimenting with any of the tools presented in class three or listed in More Web Tools for Work or Play. In class: The focus of this class will be on using Twitter to establish a personal learning network (PLN) and how social bookmarking can be used as a tool for both teaching and learning.
Homework Assignment:
1. This week's blog post should be about your experiences setting up your PLN (personal learning network), the people you connect with, any positives or negatives that occur, and any questions or revelations that you have while in search of global colleagues.
2. Find and experiment with a few tools/applications. Think about how you might use these tools in one of your courses. Think about what you will want to use for your project.
3. Next week you will present your final project to the class.
Tuesday, July 29
In class: Students will present their final projects to the class and explain how they will be used.
Homework: Blog the details of your presentation. Complete the final touches to your projects to get them ready to use with your students. Go out and use the technology!
